MarTID - Maritime Training Insights Database

Launching the Global Maritime Training Insights Database

Nov 7, 2017 Marine Learning Systems 0 , ,

We’re very excited to announce the launch of MarTID – the Maritime Training Insights Database, a historic initiative to study global maritime training practices.

Vessel operators and maritime training centers continually invest significant resources into creating effective training programs. However, the industry as a whole does not have a central location to share information about their training approaches and successes. There is no resource currently available for operators to benchmark their training practices. The community has little opportunity to learn from the successes of other industry players.

With your help, this is all about to change.

What is MarTID?

Together with the World Maritime University and New Wave Media, Marine Learning Systems has collaboratively founded this non-commercial initiative.  The aim is to collect and share anonymized, secure data on maritime industry training practices, foci, and outcomes. We are doing this under the belief that sharing information on maritime training benefits the entire industry.

Through an annual training practices survey, the initiative will continually grow in depth and provide a global picture of maritime training that is not currently available to operators.

This database will provide invaluable data on current and emerging training trends, staffing models, training focus areas, tools, training resource allocation and so on. The bottom line for training administrators is that the database will allow each to make better decisions by benchmarking their own training practices against what is happening in the industry. This makes the industry safer and more efficient, benefiting everyone.

Following this survey, a series of reports will be published. The reports will provide high-level and detailed information covering maritime training trends, issues and successes.

Your insights are needed.

Although this initiative has been founded and run by the three partner organizations, it requires community involvement to succeed. Specifically:

  • If you work at a vessel operator or maritime training facility, please make your senior training administrator aware of this important survey by sharing this blog post with them.
  • If you are a senior training administrator of a vessel operator or training facility, we need you to complete a survey on behalf of your organization. Please send any questions to info@MarTID.org or take the survey at www.martid.org/survey.

We believe that the annual collection and analyses of training data will help the maritime community gain insights that can lead to enhanced policy-setting, decision-making, benchmarking and operational optimization by industry operators and regulatory authorities.

We hope that the survey data will become an important source of knowledge for the global maritime community. Therefore, we thank you in advance for contributing to this important body of knowledge.
